Twitter’s firm MoPub blocks account of Russian news agency Sputnik

MOSCOW, Nov 8 (PRIME) -- Twitter’s firm MoPub, a platform of mobile applications monetization used by the social network to pay content makers for advertising, has temporarily closed an account of Russian news agency Sputnik, Sputnik said on Wednesday.

Sputnik’s technical specialists failed to access a MoPub account due “to an infringement of conditions of servicing or policies regarding the supplier (of services)” on October 31.

The news agency had been using MoPub since February in its mobile application and received payments several times by July. Later Sputnik stopped placing advertisements from MoPub. The payments totaled slightly more than U.S. $3,500 with the last one, about $100, done on October 31.

A Sputnik spokesperson said that “MoPub has actively worked for two months, May and June, but later we stopped using it and received money only from users of old versions.”

On October 26, Twitter blocked advertisements from channels owned by Sputnik and its fellow agency RT on the basis of work held by the social network in relation to alleged intrusion of these agencies in the U.S. presidential elections in 2016.
